Songwriter Alan Menken Immortalized on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame

Flanked by actress Mandy Moore and characters from Disney’s “Tangled,” legendary composer Alan Menken received a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame last Friday in a ceremony held near the historic El Capitan Theatre.

The songwriter, who was responsible for a string of wildly successful Disney musical scores in the 1990s, has won a total of 8 Academy Awards and 10 Grammy Awards for work on various movies, including “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Pocahontas.”

Lately, the Menken has turned to the stage for his inspiration.  Responsible for the stage versions of “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “The Little Mermaid,” his most recent work has been for “Leap of Faith,” rumored to be Broadway-bound, and “Sister Act,” which debuts on Broadway next year.

Menken did take a break from musical theatre, however, to pen the score for Disney’s latest animated feature, “Tangled,” which opens in theatres next Wednesday, November 24.
