Federal Mediator to Assist in Contract Negotiation at Walt Disney World

As labor contract talks continue to stall between Disney and its largest labor union at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, the two sides jointly announced today that they are seeking the assistance of a federal mediator.  As a result, Disney and the Service Trades Council have agreed to extend their current contract until Saturday, December 11.

Representing a wide range of employees working in most of the resort’s areas, the Service Trades Council consists of about 20,800 full time employees.

Contract negotiations began in June but stalled last month.  Fair and equitable distribution of raises, in addition to the need for wages to keep pace with the rising cost of health care, dominate the talks that have, so far, been unsuccessful.

Both sides maintain that reaching an agreement is a priority.
