Celebrating Hawaiian culture and history as well as the sense of harmony embodied in the Aloha spirit has been a guiding principle for Disney since beginning work on Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, set to open next year in Ko Olina, Hawai’i. A clear example of dedication to this principle is the artwork to be displayed in the resort, and for one project, Disney called upon the children of Hawai’i to lend a helping hand.
When Aulani opens, a distinctive rainbow collage will dominate the lobby area. The rainbow will be created from photos submitted by students from all over the state, ranging from elementary to high school age. One hundred-thirty-eight photos in all will comprise the unique mural, each picture representative of the beauty of Hawai’i – but focusing on only one color of the rainbow. When the photos are combined into a collage, they will form the full spectrum.
The collage is the work of The Children’s Digital Image Rainbow Project, a collaboration between Aulani, the Hawai’i Arts Alliance, and the State of Hawai’i, Creative Industries Division. The object of the project is to highlight the creative talent of local children. Students whose photos are used in the project will receive a $100 gift card.
I think we have found another reason to visit Aulani…and soon!
