Disney Channel is trying out some new tricks — and relying on some old ones — with its brand new show, Shake It Up, debuting on November 7th.
Created by Chris Thompson (known for hits like Laverne and Shirley and Bosom Buddies), this is the first Disney Channel series that will focus on a best friends duo, but it still relies on a “show within a show,” which is a premise the channel has succeeded with before. The story will follow teen friends CeCe Jones and Raquel “Rocky” Blue as they land jobs as background dancers on the local teen dance show.
Starring in the series will be fourteen-year-old Zendaya Coleman — a newcomer to television — and thirteen-year-old Bella Thorne, who’s also been seen by television audiences on HBO’s Big Love; she also has four films slated for production over the next 12 months.
