Back in February we told you about rumors of a gondola lift system that was rumored to be coming to the Walt Disney World Resort.
Now it appears that this new transportation system is becoming a reality for the resort.
The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that documents obtained from the Reedy Creek Improvement District confirm the project.
According to the documents, there will be six stations with three gondola lines that link Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Caribbean Beach Resort, and the area between Pop Century and Art of Animation.
The enclosed gondola cabs will hold 10 people. According to these documents the vendor for the gondolas will be Doppelmayr, a European manufacturer that is billed as the “world’s leading builder of ropeways, cable cars, and ski lifts.”
Neither Reedy Creek or Disney would provide comments to the Sentinel on the project which was reportedly being called “The Italian Job.”
It seems very likely that this project will coincide with the major expansion taking place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Star Wars Land, a project that will undoubtedly increase attendance at Disney World. Epcot is also rumored to be getting some sort of overhaul, but no details have been announced.
