We’re going to have to wait a little bit longer to see the next Star Wars movie.
The Walt Disney Studios has announced that the release date for Star Wars: Episode VIII has been pushed back to December 15, 2017. The film was slated for a May 26, 2017 release.
Currently, Episode VIII is in pre-production and filming is set to begin next month in London. Previous reports said filming was slated to begin this month. The film was written by and will be directed by Rian Johnson. JJ Abrams will serve as an executive producer.
To fill the void left by the schedule change, Disney has moved up the release date for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film, originally slated for a July 7, 2017 release, will now be released on May 26, 2017 – the old Episode VIII date.
Dead Men Tell No Tales stars Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Javier Bardem.
