High School Musical is celebrating its 10th anniversary and as part of the celebration Disney Channel is showing a special telecast of the film tonight, January 20, at 8 p.m. ET.
The film was a hit when it debuted a decade ago as a Disney Channel Original Movie. It starred Zac Efron as Troy Bolton, Vanessa Hudgens as Gabriella Montez, Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay Evans, Corbin Bleu as Chad, Lucas Grabeel as Ryan Evans and Monique Coleman as Taylor McKessie.
When it debuted it had the highest ratings for any telecast ever on Disney Channel and was the first-ever TV movie soundtrack to reach #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.
The film won two Emmy Awards, the Television Critics Association Award, an Imagen Award, a Billboard Music Award for Soundtrack of the Year, an American Music Award, and a Producer’s Guild of America award. Kenny Ortega also won two Director’s Guild of America Awards for the film.
Disney Channel is showing High School Musical 2 on January 21 and 24, while Freeform will air High School Musical on January 23 and January 24.
