The final runDisney Expedition Everest Challenge happens Saturday, May 2 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The nighttime event combines a 5K race and a scavenger hunt that includes running, obstacle courses, and puzzles. The race course takes runners through the Animal Kingdom – a park that can be difficult to navigate in the daylight.
The first Expedition Everest Challenge debuted in 2008 as a fall runDisney event and was moved to a spring event just five years ago.
The final Expedition Everest Challenge sold out quickly when registration opened several months ago. Many of those who registered for the event suspected this would be the last running, considering the ongoing construction at Animal Kingdom for the Avatar-themed land.
There are still tickets available for the post-race party – spectators can enter the theme park after 10:30 p.m. for the party. The race begins at 10 p.m.
There is no word from runDisney regarding a replacement for the race.
