Walt Disney Animation Studios’ hit film Big Hero 6 recently crossed the $500 million mark at the global box office.
This makes the film the fifth Disney animated film to make $500 million worldwide. The other films are Frozen, The Lion King, Tangled, and Aladdin.
Big Hero 6 earned $218.5 million at the domestic box office and will soon be the third highest grossing Disney Animation film in history.
At the international box office the film has earned $287 million, with $66.7 million of that earned in Japan where it was the number one film for five weeks.
The film has yet to be released in France or China, so the global box office returns are sure to grow.
Big Hero 6 is also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Film. It’s also the fourth Disney film released in 2014 to earn more than $500 million, joining Guardians of the Galaxy, Maleficent, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
