Disneyland’s Diamond Celebration to Feature New Nighttime Shows and a Glistening Sleeping Beauty Castle

sleeping beauty castleDisneyland Resort is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with a Diamond Celebration that includes three new nighttime shows and more.

The Diamond Celebration starts May 22 and both Sleeping Beauty and Carthay Circle Theater will be adorned with diamond medallions. The Disneyland Resort and the streets surrounding the resort will be decorated with Diamond Celebration décor and banners in Disneyland blue.

“We’ve conceived the Disneyland Diamond Anniversary as a celebration of this special place that started it all,” said Tom Staggs, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “Disneyland was envisioned as a place that encourages all of us to be ‘forever young,’ in part by being forever young itself … so we’re celebrating not just the last 60 years, but all that is yet to come.”

One of the new nighttime “spectaculars” for the Diamond Celebration is the ‘Paint the Night’ parade which will take place at the Disneyland Park. The parade will feature more than 1.5 million LED lights as Mickey Mouse “uses his imagination to harness the power of Tinker Bell’s pixie dust and Paint the Night in dazzling Disney dream.”

The parade will include appearances by characters from Monsters, Inc., Cars, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story, and Frozen.

Another new celebration spectacular will be the Disneyland Forever fireworks show. Guests will be transported into the worlds of Disney and Disney/Pixar films. The show includes the largest installation of projection mapping technology in a Disney Park and the “fireworks stage” will extend to Main Street U.S.A., it’s a small world, Rivers of America, and the Matterhorn. Projections will transform these park icons into story scenes from Disney films.

The new fireworks display will also feature two new songs – the theme song ‘Live the Magic’ and the closing song ‘Kiss Goodnight’ written by Disney Legend Richard Sherman.

At Disney California Adventure, the World of Color will be transformed into ‘World of Color – Celebrate! The Wonder World of Disney.’ The celebration of Walt Disney will take guests on an “inspirational journey through the unparalleled imagination of Walt Disney.”
