This year looks like it’s going to be another big year for The Walt Disney Studios.
The Studio recently released information on its 2015 slate of films and it includes the live-action Cinderella which hits theaters in March, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron which arrives in May, and the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens which opens on December 18.
The first Disney film to open this year is Strange Magic from Lucasfilm. The animated film is described as a “madcap fairytale musical inspired by ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’” The film features the voice talents of Alan Cumming, Kritsin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph, and Evan Rachel Wood.
Strange Magic opens January 23.
Next up is McFarland USA starring Kevin Costner. This film opens February 20 and is based on the true story McFarland, USA which followed novice runners from McFarland, California as they built a cross-country team.
Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Lily James and Cate Blanchette, opens March 20.
Disneynature’s Monkey Kingdom opens on Earth Day, April 17, and follows the adventures of blonde bobbed monkey Maya and her family in the jungles of Southeast Asia.
The Avengers return on May 1 with Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron. The heroes are put to the ultimate test as they battle to save the planet from Ultron. Another highly-anticipated film opens on May 22 when Tomorrowland starring George Clooney arrives in theaters. This Brad Bird directed film is still shrouded in a bit of mystery.
Summer 2015 kicks off with the June 19 release of Pixar’s latest animated film – Inside Out – starring the voice talents of Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, and Mindy Kaling. Marvel has another film arriving in 2015 – Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd. This “next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time.”
Cinderella isn’t the only animated classic coming to life in 2015. The live-action version of The Jungle Book swings into theaters on October 9 and stars Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong’o, and Idris Elba.
Tom Hanks returns to the big screen on October 16 in the “Untitled Steven Spielberg Cold War Thriller.” The title alone is enough to keep fans guessing. We’ll keep you posted on this one.
The oft-delayed film The Good Dinosaur from Disney/Pixar finally arrives in theaters on November 25 just in time for the holidays.
And then, on December 18, The Force awakens and the film fans have been waiting for finally opens in theaters. Star Wars: The Force Awakens promises to take fans back to “a galaxy far, far away.” We’ll be counting down the days.
