Disney’s Animal Kingdom is celebrating the birth of two baby gorillas in just one month.
The first male gorilla was born August 7 to Azizi and Gino, while the second baby – also a male – was born September 3 to Kashata and Gino. Their family also includes another female named Benga and a four-year old female named Lilly. Kashta is also Lilly’s mother.
The gorilla family lives in the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail.
“It’s exciting to see a strong, nurturing family of this endangered species flourishing at Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” said Jay Therien, Animal Operations Manager for Disney’s Animal Programs. ”As our bouncing baby boy bonds with Kashata, we’re thrilled with his health and development.”
The newest gorilla is the fifth born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan. The first gorilla born at the Animal Kingdom was born in 1997 before the park opened. A second baby gorilla was born in 1999, and a third was born in 2010.
