Academy Award Winner Lupita Nyong’o Joins Cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

star wars logoThere is more casting news surrounding the production of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) has been added to the cast. Gwendoline Christie, who currently stars at Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones has also been cast in the film.

They join John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow as new cast members. Original cast members Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill are reprising their roles as Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker in the film.

“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”

J.J. Abrams is directing Star Wars: Episode VII and the screenplay was written by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Filming is currently underway, and the movie is set to open in theaters on December 18, 2015.
