The Disney Channel has announced that teen sensation Zendaya will headline a new series on the network called K.C. Undercover.
The new series is set to begin production this summer and will premiere on Disney Channel in 2015.
K.C. Undercover focuses on K.C. Cooper, a high school math whiz who is training to be an undercover super spy, following in her parents’ footsteps. The show finds the Cooper family balancing family issues while performing missions to save the country.
Zendaya is not only starring in the new series, but she’s also serving as a co-producer. The show will be executive produced by Rob Lotterstein (Shake It Up).
“Zendaya and Rob Lotterstein are a powerhouse combination to produce Disney Channel’s next action-driven sitcom,” said Adam Bonnett, Executive Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Channels Worldwide. “This show has all of the Disney Channel attributes – family, friendship, humor and heart all from the point of view of an incredibly talented and relatable teenage girl.”
Disney Channel viewers will see Zendaya in the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie Zapped, which premieres June 27. The teen actress/singer/dancer shot to fame on the Disney Channel series Shake It Up and went on to star on Dancing with the Stars on ABC.
K.C. Undercover also stars Kadeem Hardison (Static Shock), Tammy Townsend (The Client List), Kamil McFadden (House of Payne), and Veronica Dunn (Our Wild Hearts).
