Disney Passes the $2 Billion Mark at the International Box Office

This year is on track to be Disney’s biggest year ever when it comes to the international box office.

The company passed the $2 billion mark on August 22, which was the fastest the company has ever reached that mark in a calendar year. This year also marks the fourth consecutive year that the $2 billion mark has been surpassed.

Iron Man 3 – which was the year’s number one movie – earned the company more than $805 million internationally, and Monsters University just passed the $450 million mark in the overseas box office.

Monsters University is also the fourth Disney/Pixar film to earn $700 million globally, and has just become Disney’s biggest release of all time in China.

Disney’s Planes just opened in the United Kingdom, Spain, Russia, and Germany. Before the end of 2013, it will also open in Brazil, Mexico, Australia, France, Italy, and Japan. The animated film just crossed the $105 million box office mark worldwide

Upcoming Disney films that will no doubt add to the international box office total include Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World which opens in November, and Walt Disney Animation Studio’s Frozen which opens around the holidays.
