Walt Disney Company Gets Approval to Build High-Tech Studio Complex on Golden Oak Ranch

Last month the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors gave The Walt Disney Company approval to go move forward with plans to build a new high-tech production studio.

The new studio will be built on 58 acres of the Golden Oak Ranch and will be called the Disney/ABC Studios at the Ranch. The studios will include six soundstages, production offices, talent bungalows, a commissary, production storage, and other offices.

Disney has owned the Golden Oak Ranch since the late 1950s and it is one of the largest television and movie production ranches left in Southern California. Disney first proposed building the new studios back in 2009.

The company says the studio construction project will generate approximately 3,000 jobs and will create more than $500 million in economic activity for the area. The ranch is located just south of Santa Clarita, in an area that has the largest concentration of movie studios in the region.

While there is no word yet on what sort of productions will take place at the finished studios, but based on the name it is likely to be home to several television projects for ABC and Disney.
