Back in July our friends at the Disney Food Blog let us know about what appeared to be the arrival of the Disney Rapid Fill Refillable Mug program at the Walt Disney World Resort. At the time, new beverage machines were being installed at various resorts on property and it seemed very likely that the mugs would arrive soon after.
As of this week – thanks to our DFB friends – we can tell you that the Rapid Fill mugs are in use at Disney’s All-Star Music Intermission Food Court and All-Star Movies World Premiere Food Court, and will soon be rolled out to the rest of the Disney World resorts.
So you might be wondering “what IS the Rapid Fill mug system?” We’re going to give you the basic information on the new system.
The Rapid Fill system allows Disney Resort guests to buy a resort mug that can be refilled for a certain period of time that is designated when the mug is purchased. The RFID bar code embedded in the mug will deactivate the mug at the end of that designated time period.
The new mugs have the “Rapid Fill” logo featured on the mug and look a lot like the “old” resort mugs, except for that logo and new lid colors that include orange, purple, or green. The mugs feature characters including Mickey Mouse and pals frolicking poolside.
The mugs also feature this new language: “Refills available at no additional charge at Resort Beverage Island located in the resort that this mug was purchased through the end of your resort stay.” Also, you can’t microwave the mugs.
The Rapid Fill mugs can be purchased at the following prices:
- $8.99 for 1 Day
- $11.99 for 2 Days
- $14.99 for 3 Days
- $17.99 for Length of Stay
The Rapid Fill mugs are also available as part of the Disney Dining Plan, just like the “old” mugs.
When using your new Rapid Fill mug, you need to make sure the mug is sitting ON the tray of the beverage machine so that machine can “read” your mug. The screens on the Rapid Fill beverage machines will let you know if your mug is not placed properly, and it’ll also let you know how many days you have left to use the mug.
It’s also worth noting that the mugs cannot be refilled immediately after you fill it. Example: If you drink your beverage quickly and want a refill a minute later, you’ll have to wait. According to the Disney Food Blog the cups are programmed so they can’t be refilled until about two minutes after the screen says “Fill Capacity” reached.
