This week brought a new update on Disney’s Tomorrowland, an upcoming film directed by Brad Bird whose development has been largely shrouded in mystery. It was announced that the young actress Raffey Cassidy has been cast in the film, where she will star opposite George Clooney.
The Hollywood Reporter announced the casting update, reporting that Cassidy will play a young girl robot that has been around for decades and has a previous relationship with Clooney’s character, a bitter inventor. Cassidy was most recently seen in Snow White and the Huntsman, in which she played a young Snow White.
In addition to Cassidy, The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that Hugh Laurie, star of television’s House, has reportedly been cast as the film’s antagonist.
The plot of Tomorrowland is still officially unknown, although a possible synopsis of the film was leaked last month. The film is said to be in the same vein as Steven Spielberg’s 1978 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which focuses on a man’s search for extra-terrestrials on Earth. In addition to Bird’s direction, Tomorrowland also features a script by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof and Jeff Jensen.
