A thirteen year old boy is listed in critical condition today after being pulled from a Walt Disney World resort pool by his cousin.
The boy, who is visiting the resort from Missouri, was playing in the pool with other family members. The boy’s family became concerned after not seeing him for several minutes, when his cousin spotted him and pulled him from the water. A guest and the boy’s father began to administer CPR at that point. It is unclear where lifeguards, who are on duty at the pool from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., were at the time of the rescue.
Initially, the victim was taken to a Celebration hospital before being transferred to Florida Hospital Orlando. His condition is currently listed as critical.
In a statement, Disney spokesperson Marilyn Waters responded to questions that “”Our concern is for the young man and his family. We’ve reached out to the family to offer our assistance and support.”
UPDATE: The boy, Anthony Johnson, was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning, March 13. Disney offered this statement:
We are saddened by Anthony Johnson’s passing and our hearts go out to his family, friends and loved ones. We have reached out to his family to offer care and assistance during this difficult time.
