On Monday, a tourism official confirmed that Hong Kong Disneyland and the government are currently in talks over the resort’s expansion plans, which may include adding an additional hotel.
Tourism commission chief Philip Yung Wai-hung said they do plan to create a third hotel to the park. The current two hotels have approximately 1,000 rooms between them. Said Wai-hung:
We are now doing the design, and we aim to report to the legislature within the year on the design and financial arrangements.
Meanwhile, the managing director of the theme park Andrew Kam Min-ho said he and his team have been deciding the fate of several proposals for the expansion, attempting to shortlist a few that are actually feasible.
Last year, the new attractions that opened up gave a big boost to Hong Kong Disneyland’s profits. In fact, in the fiscal year to last September, the park make its first profit since opening in 2005. With the latest expansion plans, Hong Kong Disneyland officials hope this will bring an even more substantial boost in visitors and revenue.
