You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!
Ok, well, maybe not. But you can feel like you’re flying as you run! Pull on your tutu, strap on your wings, and tie on your sneakers, because now’s the perfect time to begin training for the 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland!
On Sunday, January 20, Disney’s annual “Tinker Bell Half Marathon” began. The marathon is in its second year, and this year was even bigger and better than last year’s inaugural event! According to the Orange County Register, at last count roughly 19,700 people registered for the weekend, 14,000 of whom ran in the Tinker Bell Marathon (that’s about 2,400 more than last year)!
The Marathon began at 5a.m. and wound 13.1 miles through Downtown Disney, Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and then through Anaheim. After crossing the finish line near the Paradise Pier hotel, participants were awarded a Tinker Bell Medal for completing the race! Also at the finish line was a Family Reunion area complete with a Disney characters waiting to greet the victorious! Participants also received goodies like a Champion shirt and and an iGift bag.
The Tinkerbell Half Marathon is part of Disney’s “Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend,” which included the Never Land Family Fun Run 5K, runDisney Kids Races, and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend Expo (where guests can purchase exclusive runDisney products, like the cool New Balance sneakers we’ve heard so much about!
Although the Tinker Bell Half Marathon is marketed mostly to women, men are welcome to run, too. In fact, last year 900 men ran the event, including Lord of the Rings and Goonies star Sean Astin. This year that number jumped to 1,600, including several guys who got into the spirit of things and dressed up like Tinkerbell and Minnie Mouse.
Information for participants and spectators is available on the Marathon’s FAQ page.
