Popular comedian Ricky Gervais is reportedly in talks to star in the Muppets sequel.
The sequel to the wildly successful 2011 film will begin production in January, and will feature plenty of cameo appearances. However, there are three main human roles – Gervais is in negotiations for the starring role, while Ty Burrell of Modern Family will play the part of an Interpol inspector.
If Gervais signs on for the project, his role can be compared to Jason Segel’s appearance in the first Muppets film, although the details of his role are being kept strictly under wraps. Furthermore, we don’t know at this point whether his role will require singing, as it did in the first film.
If Gervais signs on, this will be his first feature film since 2009’s The Invention of Lying. We’ll let you know more when further news becomes available.
