This week brought the announcement of the nominees for this year’s Grammy Awards. Among the nominees were several Disney songs and albums, featuring music from Newsies, The Muppets, and more.
The Broadway cast recording of Newsies earned a nomination for Best Musical Theater Album. The hit Broadway show features music by Jack Feldman and Alan Menken, who has previously won five Grammy Awards for his work on such Disney films as Tangled, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.
After earning the Oscar earlier this year for Best Song, the song “Man or Muppet” from last year’s film The Muppets has now been nominated for a Grammy Award as well. The song, written by Bret McKenzie, earned a nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Also nominated in that category is the song “Learn Me Right” from Disney/Pixar’s Brave, which was written and performed by the band Mumford & Sons.
In addition to its Best Song nomination, the soundtrack for The Muppets also earned a nomination in the category of Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
