Rookie pro golfer Charlie Beljan won his first PGA Tour Tournament on Sunday at the Walt Disney World Resort – but it wasn’t an easy victory.
Although he played well throughout the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic – leading, in fact – his blood pressure spiked on Friday. This led to shortness of breath and a near-collapse during the final holes. After receiving medical attention, he returned to the course and ended up winning the entire tournament.
It truly was a fairy tale ending for this golfer, whose $846,000 winners check was almost double what he had earned this year.
Said Beljan after his win:
Every day I drove underneath that Disney sign coming here (and) it said ‘Welcome to Disney World, Where Dreams Come True. And that’s just what happened this week.
