Last week, we brought you an update with some news about the highly anticipated sequel to The Muppets. Now, we’re excited to bring you another bit of news on the film via Collider.com and Muppets producer Todd Lieberman, including the return of Muppets composer Bret McKenzie and where the new film will take place.
As we mentioned in our last update on the film, the Muppets sequel is set to begin shooting in January 2013. However, the Muppets will be heading across the pond for this film, with shooting scheduled to take place in London, both at Pinewood Studios and in and around the city itself. This is familiar territory for the Muppets, as London served as the filming location for The Muppet Show as well as the setting of their second film, The Great Muppet Caper. Currently, shooting for the film, described as a “comedy caper,” is set to take place in the UK through April.
Returning to compose new songs for the feature will be Muppets composer and Flight of the Conchords member Bret McKenzie, who won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for his Muppets song “Man or Muppet.” And while we can always expect to see our favorite Muppets like Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, and Miss Piggy, Lieberman revealed that we might be getting a new Muppet in this film, just as Walter was introduced in The Muppets last year.
While nothing has been officially confirmed by Disney, IMDB is reporting that The Muppets 2 will be debuting in theaters December 20, 2013. Lieberman also revealed that we may be hearing some casting announcements about the film very soon, so be sure to stay tuned for updates on this tremendously exciting new film.
