Horse and Headless Horseman Take a Tumble at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

What’s more frightening than a Headless Horsemen on a fierce mount?  When horse and rider unexpectedly take a fall.  That’s exactly what happened during a recent performance at the popular after hours fall event, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the spill took place on the evening of Monday, October 8, while the cast member, dressed as the Headless Horsemen from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, rode his galloping horse through the route to signal the beginning of the parade.  As part of a much-loved event, guests always look forward to the spectacle, and many were videotaping when the fall occurred.

Once the horse lost its footing, the rider fell, but according to Disney, both rider and horse are fine.  The cast member did actually remount the horse and complete the performance.  The later performance of the evening, however, was suspended, as both horse and rider underwent evaluation.

Weather was not reported to have been a factor in the horse’s slipping.  While it has rained earlier in the day, the pavement was dry at the time of the parade.  Normally, when wet conditions are present, Disney follows an alternate rain plan, and the horse walks the route, rather than running.

In light of the incident, Disney plans to continue offering the act, which is a highlight of the special event.
