Kevin Costner is reportedly in talks to star in the Disney backed sports drama McFarland. The movie is to be directed by Nicki Caro, who also directed Whale Rider, and produced by Mayhem Pictures’ Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray, who were responsible for other such sports-themed hits as Secretariat, Invincible, and Miracle.
McFarland is the true story of a high school track coach, living in McFarland, California during the 1980s. In the predominantly Latino school, the coach puts together a winning track team, inspiring students to overcome obstacles- mental, physical and social to make it to the finish line.
The movie is set to begin filming in 2013 and is reported to have a $17 million dollar budget.
