This June, Disney California Adventure will finally wrap up its major expansion and celebrate the opening of two brand-new areas, Buena Vista Street and Cars Land. While there are many new attractions, dining experiences, and new themed areas to look forward to as part of the expansion, guests will be able to enjoy some great new entertainment offerings as well.
We already let you know about some cool entertainment offerings coming to Cars Land, which will include a special show by Red the Fire Truck and “DJ’s Dance and Drive.” In addition, guests will be able to meet Lightning McQueen and Mater themselves in a new meet-and-greet by the Cozy Cone Motel.
However, Buena Vista Street will also be getting its share of new entertainment to enjoy. The area is themed to Los Angeles in the 1920’s and 30’s, and bringing the spirit of this era to life will be the Citizens of Buena Vista Street. Much like the Citizens of Hollywood that entertain guests at Walt Disney World’s Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park, these eccentric characters will interact with guests, strolling the streets and helping guests to be further immersed in this era. The citizens will include a “fun-loving photographer, a misguided messenger, a dotty dog lover and a comic cop.”
There will also be some new shows to debut on Buena Vista Street. While New York City may have the Broadway premiere of Newsies, Disney California Adventure will have some newsies of its own. The “Red Car News Boys” will perform each day, rolling on to the street aboard one of the new Red Car Trolleys. The News Boys, joined by Mickey Mouse, will perform authentic songs from the period that include “California, Here I Come.”
Also performing on Buena Vista Street will be “Five and Dime,” a group that arrives on a “makeshift jalopy” on their way to Hollywood to perform comedic versions of 1920’s and 30’s standards. Described as “an innovative sextet of maverick musicologists longing for their big break,” the group is led by the female vocalist “Dime,” who has charisma and the voice of a young Ella Fitzgerald. The group will also enlist the help of some audience spectators to help bring their songs to life.
These exciting new entertainment offerings will also be joined by the new Mad T Party and the new Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline show in the Condor Flats area of the park. In addition, the Pixar Play Parade will make its return to Disney California Adventure this summer, where it will entertain audiences while traveling through an extended parade route that will be the longest parade route in any Disney park.
Cars Land and Buena Vista Street will make their grand debut at Disney California Adventure June 15.
