Disney-Pixar’s ‘Brave’ to Close Edinburgh Film Festival

Sources have announced that the 66th Edinburgh Film Festival will be the proud host of the European premiere of Disney-Pixar’s Brave. The film will close the festival on June 30.

The festival, which has a long-standing relationship with Disney and Pixar, has screened several high-profile titles in the past but missed out on Cars 2 last year, which led to a disastrous showing. With Brave now in the roster, however – and the official opening date for the film set to August 13 in the U.K. – the film festival is a natural choice, given the movie’s Scottish setting and cast.

The film festival’s artistic director Chris Fujiwara says:

Though we are an international film festival, we’re mindful that we have a special responsibility to Scotland’s cinematic image. It makes perfect sense that this film, which is so strongly tied to the cultural mythology of Scotland and the beauty of the Scottish landscape, and in which Scottish talent has such a significant involvement, should be part of our festival.

The festival runs from June 20 to July 1.
