We let you know a few months ago that the wonderful new play Peter and the Starcatcher, which made its off-Broadway debut last spring, would be premiering on Broadway this spring. This week, it was announced that the show will officially begin performances at Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre this March.
Peter and the Starcatcher, which is a prequel of sorts to Peter Pan, is based on the popular novel of the same name by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Using a cast of only 12 actors and some wonderfully imaginative staging, the show explores how a young orphan boy became the legendary Peter Pan, and gives us a greater look into the whimsical world of Neverland.
The show will begin performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on March 28, with its opening night scheduled for April 15. Tickets for Peter and the Starcatcher will go on sale February 13 through Ticketmaster.
No casting has been announced yet for the show’s Broadway run, which is directed by Alex Timbers (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) and Roger Rees (The Addams Family, Nicholas Nickelby). The play features a script by Tony Award winner Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, The Addams Family), and, while the show is not billed as a musical, includes a few songs composed by Wayne Barker.
