It was an exciting finish at this morning’s Walt Disney World Marathon, in which Brazil’s Fredison Costa narrowly edged out his fellow Brazilian, Adriano Bastos, to win the race for the second consecutive year.
Bastos was favored to finish the event first, but came in second to Costa by a sliver of 14 seconds. Bastos has enjoyed the title of champion seven times in previous years. Costa’s winning time was 2:19:01, while the field’s leading female finisher, Renee High of Virginia Beach, Virginia, turned in a time of 2:48:33.
The race wraps up the annual Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, which consists of a number of running events, including a full marathon, a half marathon, a 5k, marathon relays, and children’s events. Hard core runners can even sign up for the Goofy challenge, and run both the half and the full marathon on consecutive days.
Runners from all 50 states, as well as 60 countries, competed in this year’s Walt Disney World Marathon, including more than 6,500 runners who took part in the Goofy Challenge.
runDisney sponsors several running events throughout the year at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. Registration for the 2013 Disney Marathon weekend will be available later this spring. To find out more about other runDisney events, be sure to visit runDisney.com.
