This morning, we were on hand to celebrate the birthday of the Happiest Place on Earth – Walt Disney World! The festivities kicked off early, as the crowd on hand for rope drop at the Magic Kingdom soon swelled to security, causing the park to begin operation of the turnstiles early.
At 9:45 am, Walt Disney World Ambassadors welcomed the Main Street Marching Band to open the special ceremony. Next, Meg Crofton, president of operations in the U.S. and France, recalled Walt Disney’s vision as the Magic Kingdom was opened, remembering that this ambitious project was one of the last that Disney had a personal hand in creating. Next, Vice President Phil Holmes, who began his career at Magic Kingdom taking e-pass tickets at the Haunted Mansion on opening day, spoke fondly of the park, and the memories he has created, both as a Cast Member and a Disney fan. Leading up to the speeches was a fun filled parade that recalled a “best hits” of parades celebrating milestones of the past, and featuring lots and lots of favorite characters, from princesses (Even Rapunzel!) to the Seven Dwarfs to the Toy Story gang. Special buttons were available to guests commemorating the day, and a special retro-themed park map recalled the design of early brochures, which featured tickets for various attractions.
So, Happy Birthday, Walt Disney World! We thank you for the memories that we’ve already made, and we look forward to a bright future full of many more!
