For the past sixteen years, the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) has helped to protect wildlife and their natural habitats. Now, supporters of the fund can learn more about the DWCF’s projects in a whole new way, as Disney launched a Google Earth site for the fund.
The site enables users to take a virtual tour through the projects that DWCF is helping to fund around the world. Using the site, viewers can “visit” locations such as Nepal, to discover ways that scientists are fighting against a decrease in the vulture population, or the forests of Brazil to learn more about the exotic animal the tapir.
Through the DWCF’s Facebook page, users can click on “Discover DWCF” and search by animal type, organization, or year funded to find projects supported by the DWCF annual grant program. Users can then click on a project to discover more about it, through information such as photos, videos, and links to other websites and social media sites.
Since the fund’s inception in 1995, the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund has donated more than $15.6 million to nonprofit organizations to help fund many different wildlife projects around the world. Disney Parks guests support the fund through adding a dollar donation to their purchases at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and various resorts, attending special animal experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Epcot’s The Seas with Nemo & Friends, and purchasing reusable bags at Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line.
