Disney has decided not to opt for a fourth season of the popular Imagination Movers TV series.
The show, which features Rich Collins, Scott Smith, Scott Durbin, and Dave Poche as a musical group who solves an “idea emergency” in each episode, premiered in September 2008, and quickly became one of the Disney Channel’s most popular series in the Playhouse Disney programming block. The band has toured relentlessly in support of the show, which has been aired in more than 55 countries and territories, and translated into 12 languages.
The idea for the show started when the quartet formed the band of the same name for a backyard birthday party. With the success of that performance, they decided to dream big. Scott Smith said that, from that point on, creating a TV show “was the goal.”
After resting up from the most recent leg of their wildly successful yet grueling tour, the guys are anxious to determine what’s next. Because the show will likely continue on the Disney Channel for sometime to come, and will even air previously unseen episodes, the group believes they’ll still benefit from the television exposure for some time to come. Currently, they are in talks to determine next steps, which could include DVD, a feature-length film, licensing deals, and most likely, more touring.
Though the end of the show is bittersweet, the group is looking forward to new opportunities, and they appreciate what their time with Disney has helped them to accomplish. Says Durbin: “I’m proud that we’ve entered the idea of brainstorming into the vernacular of four-year-olds. It’s a wonderful legacy that we’ve left with this show and Disney. But there’s more to be written with this story.”
“We’re indebted to Disney,” Poche added. “They did everything we could have asked them to, and more. But it’s nice to have so many options.”
