Disney has revealed new details about its latest addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet via a media event and on the Disney Parks Blog today.
The Disney Fantasy, which will be a sister ship to the Disney Dream, will include many of the same amenities and innovation that were introduced on the Dream earlier this year. However, there are several features that will distinguish the Fantasy from its counterpart.
Both ships are equipped with the Aqua Duck water roller coaster (no word that the Fantasy’s version will have a different name), virtual portholes to bring the outside to inside staterooms, and other high tech features to change and enhance guests’ experiences. However, the Fantasy, whose signature character is Minnie Mouse, will be a ship with its own unique personality, reflecting the classic styles of the 1920s and 1930s.
To begin, the ship’s interactive dining room, the Animator’s Palate, will draw guests right into the magic. As diners are seated, they will use a template located on their placemat to draw their own characters. During the course of dinner, the sketches will become a part of the animated features, shown on several large screens throughout the restaurant, and intermingled with favorite Disney characters. Each meal promises to be a brand new experience, as technology enables guests to interact with characters and see their creations become part of the show.
For adults, there will also be several brand new clubs and hotspots for the 18-and-older set. A nighttime entertainment district called Europa will feature bars, lounges, and clubs inspired by all of Europe’s trendiest venues. Guests can visit La Piazza for the feel of an outdoor, Italian plaza. In other corners of the exciting collection, guests can mix and mingle in a variety of different locations, like the Irish pub O’Gills, the French-inspired Champagne bar Ooh La La, or the Tube, a metro dance club which takes on the look and feel of the famed London subway. For relaxing evenings and virtual views, visit Skyline, a sophisticated bar with everchanging views of some of the most famous skylines in the world, including Barcelona, Paris, St. Petersburg, and London.
For young voyagers, the Fantasy will also include the very first Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – at sea! In addition to all the pampering packages that little tykes – boys and girls alike – can now enjoy in the Disney parks, the ship’s salon for the younger set will include exclusive packages, like the Captain Mickey Mouse and Princess Minnie makeovers. “Under the Sea” treatments will also be offered. On pirate party nights – special cruise occasions that have proven very popular – Bibbidi Bobbidi will become The Pirates League, where guests can transform into their favorite scalawag with beards, bandannas, and other accessories.
In keeping with Disney Cruise Line tradition, the Fantasy will also have its very own Broadway-caliber show onboard. “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” will showcase favorite scenes from the animated film, and will even include a brand new song, “To Be Free,” by Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who penned the film’s original score. Jim Urry, vice president of entertainment and port adventures, says that the show is currently being developed, and that casting for the 45-minute signature musical will begin very soon.
The Fantasy will sail out of Port Canaveral, Florida, on alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. The longer, seven day voyages will give guests ample opportunity to take advantage of all of the ship’s innovative amenities.
