Phineas and Ferb, a Disney Channel Original television series, premiered in August 2007 as a preview. Since then, the show has become a smash hit and has generated a video game and an upcoming movie, as well as its own magazine.
The show centers around title character Phineas (voiced by Vincent Martella) and Ferb (voiced by Thomas Brodie-Sangster), stepbrothers who are always trying to think up new and creative ways to have fun. Older sister Candace (voiced by Ashley Tisdale), however, feels it’s her duty to inform Mom whenever the boys get up to their usual hi-jinks. The brothers also have a pet platypus, Perry, who moonlights as a secret agent.
To play off the success of the show, Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension, a Disney Channel Original Movie, is in production and will air on the Disney Channel summer 2011. The plot centers around Phineas and Ferb finally discovering that their pet platypus leads a double life as a secret agent. The brothers must then join Perry on an adventure through a parallel universe to take down the evil parallel version of Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
Phineas and Ferb have also been given the green light for their own big screen debut, although production and release details have not been revealed. However, the movie will combine both live action and animated elements, and Sean Bailey (Tron: Legacy) will be developing the project.
Disney Publishing also debuted the Phineas and Ferb Magazine, which retails for $4.99 per issue or an annual subscription rate of $23.95. The magazine, first featured in December 2010, contains 52 pages of glossy, full-color photos and plenty of information about your favorite dynamic duo.
Additionally, a video game based on the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie will also debut summer 2011. Entitled Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension, the video game will be available for the Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, and the Nintendo DS systems. Gamers can play as some of their favorite characters, including Phineas, Ferb and Agent P., and travel to different dimensions with the goal of winning the ultimate showdown – taking down the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
The lovable duo will also be making a special appearance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The movie-themed play-and-greet experience will feature Phineas and Ferb, as well as “the greatest director in the Tri-State area,” Cletus Filmore, making a movie about some of their crazier adventures. Here, visitors can take pictures with Phineas and Ferb, obtain autographs, and be fully immersed in this exciting interactive experience.
Phineas and Ferb have become quite a household name since the show’s debut, and will undoubtedly continue to please children and their families alike.
