Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground is a themed camping area located in Walt Disney World Resort, and officially opened to the public in 1971. The resort combines both secluded cabins and rustic campgrounds on 750 acres of lush landscaping, so guests can enjoy a family vacation in comfort, both indoors and out.
The cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground offer a home-away-from-home setting for guests who don’t like traditional camping, and are themed after the rustic American Frontier. All cabins are approximately 500 square feet, and include a sleeping area, living area, one full bathroom and fully equipped kitchens.
For guests who want to get back to nature, there are also several campsites available for guests of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. There are four types of campsites available, including tent or pop-up campsites, full hookup campsites, preferred hookup campsites and premium campsites. Amenities will vary, but all campsites will include fairly private landscaping, water, cable and electricity hookups, picnic tables, and charcoal grills. Most campsites will also include sewer hookups. There are also several air conditioned Comfort Stations located throughout the campground, and these stations feature private showers and toilets, telephones, laundry facilities and ice machines.
Dining options at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground include the nightly dinner show Hoop-De-Doo Musical Revue, which features a comedic show and an all-American family style meal. Mickey’s Backyard BBQ, a seasonal all-you-can-eat meal and show, is also fun for the whole family. The Trail’s End Restaurant is also available for casual dining, and guests can visit Crockett’s Tavern for nachos, pizza and more served from a full bar.
Recreational activities at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground also abound, and families will have plenty of things to see and do while staying at the resort. Soak up the sun on Bay Lake Beach, or further enjoy the outdoors with jogging/hiking trails, fishing, watercraft rentals, tetherball, volleyball, basketball, horseback riding, and bike rentals. Romantic carriage rides are available for adults who want a few moments of privacy, while the Tri-Circle-D Ranch also offers tours of the campground via carriage, horse or wagon. For an additional fee, guests 16 years and older can also embark on a Wilderness Back Trail Adventure, which allows you to tour the resort on a Segway Personal Transporter.
There are also two pools available at the resort and campground, including the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool, which includes a water slide and hot tub. and the Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool. There are also several specialized activities for children, including pony rides, a playground, and two arcades. Chip’n Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long is also great for kids, and features fun and songs as well as a classic Disney film viewing. Your furry friends can enjoy the outdoors as well with a special off-leash dog park, as well as designated leashed walking trails.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground features both rustic cabins and semi-private campsites, as well as all of the recreational activities and amenities you expect from a Disney resort, and guests are able to experience the beauty of nature while enjoying a memorable Disney vacation.
