Having already opened in 39 countries worldwide, the film has taken in $178.4 million overseas so far, breaking numerous box office records in countries across the globe.
The Avengers took the #1 spot at the box office during its opening weekend in all 39 countries. In Latin America, the film earned the distinction of having the biggest opening weekend ever in such countries as Mexico and Brazil, earning $15.9 million and $11.3 million, respectively.
The film grossed $24.7 million in the United Kingdom, making it both Disney’s biggest three-day opening and the highest grossing superhero movie of all time. In Australia, The Avengers had the second highest opening weekend ever, earning $19.7 million.
In Asia, Avengers posted the highest opening weekends in history in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, and had the third highest opening for a Western film in India. The film has still yet to open in the major Asian markets of China and Japan.
With the film still waiting to debut in 30% of the international market, including Russia, this already massive overseas total is set to soon grow even more. American moviegoers will be able to enjoy The Avengers when it makes its theatrical debut here on May 4.
