Over the weekend at the D23 Destination D: Amazing Adventures event, Disney released additional information about Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Bob Chapek, Chairman, Disney Parks & Resorts, talked about the storyline developed by Walt Disney Imagineering and Lightstorm Entertainment, including the story of the bridge that leads guests to Pandora.
According to the backstory the bridge was built by the Resource Development Administration and was then abandoned. The bridge is now used as the entry into the base camp of Alpha Centauri Expeditions, the tour group that hosts explorers in Pandora.
The new land will also feature two attractions: Avatar Flight of Passage and the Na’vi River Journey. Other features include the new Satu’li Canteen, Wintraders merchandise store, and the Pongu Pongu drinking location.
Pandora – The World of Avatar is slated to open in the summer of 2017 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The new land will also feature floating mountains, bioluminescent rainforest, and Banshees.
