Earlier this summer, the Broadway production of Mary Poppins celebrated a major milestone when the show became the 30th longest running show in Broadway history. Today, the show celebrated another important milestone, as Mary Poppins played its 2,000th performance on Broadway this afternoon.
Mary Poppins, based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the classic 1964 Disney film of the same name, has been running on Broadway since 2006. The show features the film’s classic songs by Disney Legends Richard and Robert Sherman, with new songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. A collaboration between Disney Theatrical Productions and Cameron Mackintosh, the show currently stars original lead performers Laura Michelle Kelly (Mary Poppins) and Gavin Lee as Bert. Steffanie Leigh, who is currently playing the role of Mary in the show’s North American tour, will make her Broadway debut when she takes over the title role on October 11.
