Mark Peter Hughes’s teen novel Lemonade Mouth will premiere as a Disney Channel Original Movie April 15, but Hughes still hasn’t gotten over the shock of seeing his work on screen.
Upon screening the film at Legacy Place with close friends and family, Hughes said, “I would be hard pressed to fully describe to you how profound that experience was. It was amazing. Amazing. Just seeing my work translated onto the screen… it was huge.”
Lemonade Mouth follows the story of five high school outcasts who bond together during detention when they realize what they each have in common – music. The movie will then focus on how these five teenagers end up forming a band together and basically change the world with their music.
Hughes wants to make sure people realize one of the huge messages of the film is simply about empowerment and always reaching for your dreams. The kids in the book all come from different backgrounds, and Hughes says “One of the themes is celebrating our many different kinds of families, whatever they are.”
The movie stars Bridgit Mendler as Olivia, Hayley Kiyoko as Stella, Blake Michael as Charlie, Adam Hicks as Wen Gifford, and Naomi Scott as Mohini “Mo” Banjeree. Christopher McDonald will play Principal Brenigan, and Tisha Campbell-Martin plays Miss Reznick, the music teacher who ends up running detention.
Lemonade Mouth will debut April 15 at 8 p.m., so mark your calendars! Once the film premieres in the U.S., it will appear on Disney Channels all over the world.
