January to Be a Busy Month at the Walt Disney Family Museum

The Walt Disney Family Museum will kickoff 2011 with lots of new and exciting events!  There will be something for everyone, but Donald Duck fans are especially in for a treat, as our favorite cantankerous fellow takes center stage at many of the museum’s events.

Screenings and Discussions

January’s Film of the Month Series, which runs January 2-31, will feature Donald Duck in many of his best-known roles.  First making his film debut in 1934, Donald went on to star in 128 cartoons by 1961!  Some of the museum’s favorites will be featured this month, including Mr. Duck Steps Out, Donald’s Dilemma, Slide Donald Slide, and Donald’s Diary.  Screenings are scheduled daily throughout the month at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Theater.  Tickets are available online at www.waltdisney.org.

On Saturday, January 22, don’t miss From the Mouth of the Duck:  Designing a Voice with Tony Anselmo.  Mr. Anselmo, Disney legend, animator, and voice over artist, will share about his experience working at the Walt Disney Studio.  He’ll also talk about his friendship with Clarence “Ducky” Nash, who voiced Donald for more than 50 years, and how he carried on Nash’s legacy.  Mr. Anselmo will wrap things up by giving a demonstration of his famous alter ego’s voice.  The event will take place at 3 p.m. in the Theater.  Tickets are required, and are available at www.waltdisney.org.

Classes

If you’re intrigued by voice over artists and the craft itself, then mark your calendar for Saturday, January 15, when the museum will present a Voice-over Workshop.  This interactive workshop will help you to find your inner character!  You’ll learn all about the voice-over industry, and will have the opportunity to step up to the mic yourself before the day is out.  Registration is required; call 415.345.6814 for more details, or email [email protected].  The workshop will run from 1 p.m to 4 p.m., and will be held in the Media Studio.

January Disney Discoveries!

To further discover the legacy of Donald, come and explore the museum’s collection of Donald comic books, and make your own Donald comic book!  Disney Discoveries! will be held on Saturday, January 8, and Saturday, January 16 from 1-3 p.m. in the Learning Art Studio.

The museum’s Look Closer series will take place January 28-30, and will feature the museum’s Donald Duck doll.  In this series, staff reveal little-known facts, behind the scenes information, and other tidbits during the short talk.  Look Closer takes place at 3 p.m. on scheduled days in Gallery 3.
