According to Playbill.com, Disney Theatrical Productions has lined up it’s next big thing: an adaptation of Tim Burton’s 2010 hit film “Alice in Wonderland” for the stage.
Disney executives have held meetings with Burton, the film’s director, and screenwriter Linda Woolverton, who also penned “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King” screenplays. Woolverton is also credited as the book writer for “Beauty and the Beast” for the stage (which garnered her a Tony nomination), “Aida,” and “Lestat.” Burton would oversee the production, but will not direct it, while Woolverton would adapt the screenplay for the stage. No other talent has been named for the project, and Disney has declined comment.
