Disney’s newest cruise ship, the Disney Fantasy, passed another important milestone Friday, as the ship headed toward the North Sea for a series of sea trials to test her seaworthiness.
This ship, which left the covered dock of shipbuilder Meyer Werft last week in a ceremonial “float out,” was pulled by tugboat – backwards – down the River Ems Friday, and was expected to arrive at Eemshaven, a seaport in Groningen, Netherlands, Saturday afternoon. While in the North Sea, the German company will put the behemoth luxury liner through a series of tests to ensure her fitness for sailing. Delivery of the ship to the Walt Disney Company is scheduled for February.
The Disney Fantasy will sail its first official voyage on March 31, and will join her sister ship, the Disney Dream, in sailing from her home port of Canaveral, Florida. Immediate plans for the 4,000 passenger ship include alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean seven night voyages starting this spring.
