David Slade, the director of such films as The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Hard Candy, will soon be teaming up with Disney as director of the upcoming adaptation Matched. Walt Disney Studios has chosen Slade to helm the new film, which is based on Ally Condie’s young adult novel of the same name.
Matched is a love story set in a future society where people are told what to read, what to believe, what to watch, and who to love. The story focuses on Cassia Reyes, a young woman who decides to reject the romantic partner that has been chosen for her and choose her own path. The original novel is the first of a series; the third book, Reached, will be released this November.
The film’s script has been written by Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows writers Michelle and Kieran Mulroney and is still in development. Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot will produce the film, and there has been no announcement yet on when Matched will be released. Stay tuned for more news on this intriguing new film.
