Beginning May 20, just in time for the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Captain Blackbeard (played by actor Ian McShane) will begin appearing on the ghostly waterfall in the grotto scenes of the Pirates of the Caribbean attractions at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom Park.
In February, McShane himself appeared on a soundstage in Los Angeles to create the head shot that will appear in the attraction, and Walt Disney Imagineering writer Michael Sprout was on hand to help direct the photo shoot. He said that McShane “came in wearing his complete Blackbeard costume, including the sword, saying it helped him stay in character!”
Keep an eye out for Blackbeard’s appearance in the attraction at both parks. Davy Jones, who originally was in the scene, will reappear later this year.
